Today boss boss and I went on a field trip to visit one of the medical centers and interview some people for a story that he was working on. It was pretty interesting to hear all the people telling us their stories. (Can't share the details since there's some privacy law that frowns on that kind of stuff.) Afterward, boss boss and I went to eat lunch at Barney's, which is a pub-like restaurant, complete with a bar and beer taps. It was a quaint little place. I've never been to a place with a pub-like atmosphere. It was kinda strange. I think I might take Nick there sometime; he'd like it.
Today, I also wrote my first story for KP. It is going to be in this week's e-newsletter about interesting things going on in our region. I wrote a short blurb on a KP employee group volunteering at a local festival this weekend. Yippee! My frst piece! Things were a lot more interesting today! Although, since they have not set up my phone line or email addy yet, it is hard to leave messages for people to call me back or email me. I have to refer them to uber-boss's phone number and email. Hee.

Today I shadowed our department's graphic design artist. I asked her a lot of questions about what she does, and the whole experience was very interesting. Then boss boss came by and asked me if I wanted to go to the apple store. I was like, "They have an apple store?! How cool! Do they only sell apples there? That's such an ODD thing, I've never heard of that!" Then boss boss gave me a strange look and said, "Uh, it's the Apple computer store." Haha. I felt so dumb. Then he joked, "Yeah, it's all apples there; we have to go to a different store for oranges!"

Boss boss came back yesterday, and so things were more interesting because he told me about projects he wants me to work on later, etc. Then our department had a big video conference staff meeting with other KP people from another building. It was so cool to see the video conferencing equipment and to participate in my first video conferencing experience! Uber-boss made me walk to the conference room with her, and when we arrived, she INSISTED that I sit next to her at the table, even though I offered to sit in the back row of seats since I was only there to observe anyway. And of course, uber-boss sat next to her boss, whom I shall refer to as uber-uber-boss. So, stuck between uber-boss and uber-uber-boss, I could not drift off during the meeting or doodle in my notepad. I also was very, very visible in the video conferencing screen, so I had to look alert the whole time. Boss boss nodded off during the meeting. He tried to hide it by using the "hand resting on forehead" technique, but I could have sworn he was dozing off. Uber-uber-boss was very boring unfortunately.
Boss boss took me out to lunch today. I made a bad choice in picking my meal. First of all, in my defense, at Buca's, clams and mussels in pasta are served *without* the shells, or they are very easy to remove. So, even though the restaurant we went to was not Buca's, I assumed it would be similar. I ordered a clam and mussel pasta. To my absolute HORROR, the pasta arrived with the shellfish still in their shells. On top of that, while I was eating, I had a really, really hard time getting the shellfish out of the shells. I finally just gave up after I'd eaten half the dish. I hope boss boss was not offended that I did not eat everything, but I was totally afraid I'd accidentally fling pasta sauce at him while trying to get the mussels out of their shells. How traumatizing!

Today was my first day at Kaiser. I was SUPPOSED to be at the New Employee Orientation all day, except they cancelled it because only five people showed up, and they said it wouldn't be cost effective to run it for only five people. So everyone who went today has to go the next time! Argh. Seeing as how my orientation was cancelled, I went upstairs to my actual department to begin working. I found out that since he thought I would be at orientation today, my boss took the day off. My uber-boss was around, but she wasn't really sure where everything was, so she just gave me a whole bunch of material to read for "background information." Whoa. I spent the WHOLE DAY reading. And I still didn't finish all of it! Uber-boss also took me out to lunch (along with two other people from our department) at P.F. Chang's. 'Twas yummy!
Right now, I have my own cubicle, and it's pretty big. Someone moved out of it, so there was an empty cubicle. I think they've been using the space as a storage area because there are boxes stored under the desk. One of the over-desk cabinets has first-aid supplies in it. Hee. My co-workers are so cute. Uber-boss said someone is moving out of an office next to boss boss's office next week, and as soon as it is cleaned out, I can move into the empty office. SWEET!

I went to the mall today, and I didn't buy a thing. :o NOT A SINGLE THING. I was not motivated at all to participate in the joys of shopping. I wandered around for four or five hours, got tired, and came home. I'm still surprised I did not buy a thing. Usually commercialism sucks me in when I go to the mall , and I end up buying SOMETHING, however small. Hmm. Saw a shirt that was orange/red the color of Nick's hair, and my sister laughed when I suggested that I buy it for him. Maybe I am still depressed about my car. Poor thing. Every time I look at it, I cringe when I see the hole in my bumper. My dad managed to push the flap back in the bumper so it's not just standing up in the air anymore, so from the distance, my car looks ok. I might have to wait a week or two before we can get through the insurance process and have them give us the money to go get the car fixed. It's not my insurance company we're getting moola from either; it's the other driver's insurance since the accident was his fault. My dad thinks they will be stingy.
I read someone's blog the other day that was SO GOOD! It was very Bridget-Jones-esque, and I was quite jealous because my blog's kinda boring. I also concluded that there is so much more drama in your life when there is no boyfriend in the picture. Boyfriends are like a stabilizing force ... there is not drama there unless you get into a fight. ;) When Mimi and I were single, we'd come home from school and have lots of boy stories to tell. Stories that made our stomachs hurt and eyes water from laughing so hard at the random-assed things that happened to us. Now a typical conversation between us goes:
Mimi: So how's Nick?
Jenny: Oh, you know. He's good. So how's your Nick?
Mimi: Oh, good ...
(And here the conversation lags ... But I'm not complaining ... I enjoy Nick's company! Mimi and I can just talk about the weird things each of our Nicks do.)
Bra-shopping sucks!!! I just have to say that. Whoever came up with these stupid contraptions anyway?! Half the time, I'm dying because the stupid underwires dig into me. Why can't they make padded bras WITHOUT underwires? That would make my life SO much easier. Argh. Argh.
