Oh man, I am bummed. It all started with a fire.

This weekend was supposed to be the APO retreat in Lake Arrowhead. A bunch of the actives went up there on Friday to set up our activities, food, and stuff for the weekend; everyone else was coming Saturday morning. So this morning we all woke up at 6:30 to do last minute setup. Then, we started getting phone calls from the drivers that left this morning, saying that the highway up the mountain to Lake Arrowhead village was closed off because the land around Highway 18 was aflame. We looked at the Thomas Guide and told them an alternate route around the mountain. They drove around to Highway 330, and by the time they got there, they closed THAT highway too. Basically, they were not letting anyone up the mountain to where we were. We finally just told all the drivers to go home. The rest of us already at the cabin were kind of stranded up on the mountain. A couple of us drove to town to see if they would be evacuating us, and they were told us the mountain was being evacuated in sections. So we ate lunch and left, since we knew we'd eventually get evacuated. They said the fire was like ... maybe 10 miles away from where we were. Since all the highways down the mountain where closer, we had to continue driving up the mountain up past Big Bear before we could turn back around on roads that headed toward LA. Geez. How traumatic. All the board members were really disappointed because we've been planning this retreat for three weeks now. Sigh.

On our way home, when we were on the 10, there was a stretch of freeway that went through Rancho Cucamonga, where there were REALLY, REALLY bad forest fires that had been burning since Thursday night (Maybe sooner). It got so smoky and black on the freeway that our driver had to turn on his headlights because we totally couldn't even see where the heck we were going. The fires were seriously really bad. Wow. Such bad luck.

Then there was a moment late Friday night. I won't go into it, but it was intense. Basically came down to me going, "Look, if you want to talk smack, let's have it out. You might as well have the courage to say it to my face, since I can hear it all from where I am anyway." I was shaking, that was how offended I was.

Paper-writing makes for a fat Jenny. (I eat too much while writing papers. )

Cat likes clam chowder.

It is official! Someone saw a ring.

I really don't want to write my research proposal.

Big blemish on my nose. Owwie.

Went to Costco today to buy food for retreat this weekend. Spent $168. WOW. I'm not sure all of that will fit in the car on the way up there.

Ripped from Mimi's blog because I thought it was much too funny to leave in one place:

This is the greatest (read: greediest) thing I've read in a few days:

If I could be anywhere at the moment..

I'd be floating atop a giant biscuit in a pool full of white sausage gravy

===================

Today I had Chai tea for the first time. Ok, so what the heck is in Chai Tea? I tasted cinnamon and was struck by the wrongness of cinnamon tea. Ugh. Although, I guess people must like it because they sell it so much, and it's so popular and "in" right now. But ... ugh. *shudder*

I'm getting so OOOOLLLLDDDDD. I'm just tired all the time. Sigh. What's wrong with me???

The new twenty dollar bill is very ... colorful. Have not yet decided whether or not I like it.

Today, I finally went and got Korean food from the place in the food court. I've been avoiding it because I don't like the creepy guy that always takes the orders. So I was totally on my way to the sandwich place when I noticed someone else sitting at the order window, and I decided that it was a *higher power* telling me to go get Korean food. It was too good of an opportunity to pass up!

So one thing that really irks me is when my professor asks for feedback from the class, and they are total wussies about telling him the truth. He was like, "so how are the readings?" and everyone was all nodding and saying it was fine. Then, (probably because I was super pissed and stressed out that week about all the stuff I had to do) I raised my hand as the only one who didn't agree with all the murmurs of agreement coming from my classmates. I told him, "I think you want us to read too much. I have reading for other classes too, and I can't be reading 500 pages a week for only this class." After that, everyone began agreeing with me about the ridiculously excessive amount of reading we have to do for that class every week. The professor agreed to cut back on the amount of weekly readings. Geez! What if I hadn't raised my hand and said anything? What a bunch of pansies! >:(

I decided that blond hairs creep me out. You know like when you lose hairs and they randomly stick to seats and whatnot? Yeah. So I have this one class where there are always blond hairs stuck on the seat every time I go. Seriously weirds me out. I don't have a problem with brown hairs or black hairs or red hairs, but DAMN, blond hairs creep me out. They seem somewhat unnatural. Ugh. I guess that's what happens when you grow up around Asian people. Hee.

The cat likes ice cream. Today, I scooped some ice cream out of the carton and into a bowl to eat. The cat kept following me around and climbing into my lap while I was eating. Finally, to stop him from whining, I dipped my finger in some melted ice cream so he could lick it. He did so quite zealously. Then he wouldn't leave me alone until I had gotten to the bottom and started feeding him the melted ice cream at the bottom, bit by bit. I finally stopped feeding him ice cream because I didn't want him to eat too much and vomit all over the place and have Shannon be mad at me for it. Hee.

So yesterday, it was really funny because right after the whole "oh, by the way, so-and-so is engaged; what, you didn't know?" episode, someone was reading this month's Cosmo, which had a pull-out section from Robbins Brothers on the different types of engagement rings they carry in their stores. It was 20 pages long! Well, anyway, we all gathered around and oohed and ahhed at all the pretty rings, not giving any thought to our previous conversation topic. The timing was just really funny. Hee.

Oh man. Spent the whole weekend at the APO Regional Conference in Anaheim. No lunch or breakfast provided. What's up with that? What the hell am I paying for then? Argh. It was all day yesterday, then we drove back yesterday afternoon because we didn't want to pay hotel fees to stay overnight, and then back there again today for the voting delegates. Wasn't as fun as the last conference.

Lake Arrowhead retreat coming up next weekend. Whee! I'm so excited! It seems like it will be so fun!

I found out from a really random person this weekend that one of my friends is (supposedly) engaged. But no one from our group knows anything about it, because if someone knew something, we'd all know because that would be the first person in our group to get engaged. Hmm. It was strange. Not sure what to think. I don't understand why she would be keeping it a secret, but I also can't figure out a reason why the person who told me would lie to me either. It's all very odd. I feel like I should be in some detective film or something where the plot keeps taking weird twists.
