I'm trying out a new comment service. Check it out! There is a link to comment on the bottom of each post. (Credit for this new idea goes to Meems, who also uses Haloscan.) We'll see how things go. Maybe I will put the Tagboard back up if Halsoscan doesn't work out. I've noticed already that it's annoying to have to scroll down the page to see if someone commented. Hehe.

Oooo, here's a scary story if you do online banking at all.

Not much to tell around here. Nothing much has happened in the last week, so I don't really have anything to talk about. So I guess I will talk about crap. Haha.

My next art project is about fortune cats. I've collected all sorts of pictures of different types of fortune cats. I have to make a spread about it. I'm starting to learn Adobe Illustrator and Flash on my own, but it's hard to pick things up on your own when you don't have projects to work for. Maybe I will buy one of those step-by-step guidebooks or something. The problem is, they're a bit overpriced. Gahh. But I watched a demo on Illustrator the other day, and it was very cool. *drools* It could totally make up for my lack of artistic ability in real life. Hehe. I like how every week we have crits on parts of our projects and people usually do by hand (i.e. thumbnails sketches), I preface my presentation with "Ok, so I'm not a fine art major ... hence the ugly pictures." I don't know why I want to be a graphic artist. Seems like more trouble than it's worth. The only advantage I have over a lot of those art people is the fact that I know how to use the software, and they don't because they draw everything by hand. But I don't even think I have the thought-process of an artist. I don't like the abstractness of art; design is a very concrete thing for me. My instructor (to be nice) calls me a very "technical" artist. Hmm. At least the people in my class are not pretentious art snob students who are always like "I just don't get what you're trying to say about this piece." I hate people who say that when you're trying to present your project. And believe me, I have been in art classes where people do that kind of crap. Which brings me to another point ... why do people say stuff like that? I mean, they have to know on one level or another that they're not being very friendly to the person who is presenting his or her project. There is no point to saying that, because what in blue hell is the presenter supposed to do anyway to cause you to get the point of their project if you don't already? And what are you supposed to say when someone tells you that after you've just finished presenting your work? I think that's just a jerk comment altogether.

I was talking to my dad today, and it sounds like he wants me to try finding a full-time job on campus after I graduate instead of going to work in some big corporate place. Huh. I mean, he has a point. Working full-time here would probably give me pretty good employee benefits, and if I find a job that relates to what I want to do, I'm totally down for that. Especially if Nick goes to grad school here, because then I can be near him. Or if I get into grad school, I can work full-time during the day and go to school at night. And if I get into grad school, part of it will be paid for because I will be a legitimate full-time employee of the university. It seems like a very good idea, actually. Props to my dad!

My mom told me this scary story (in the newspaper) of a nine-year-old girl who weighed 170 pounds! Good Lord! Nine years old! 170 pounds! On another note, somewhat related but not really, McDonalds is going to take away the option to supersize its combo meals.

Wow. Check out Pisey's xanga. She has a picture of her tarantula-eating experience. Hehe. You're so brave, girl!

Let me just start by saying how much I hate our housing department. They are so incompetent and generally unhelpful when I am in need of assistance. So today I went to pick out my graduate student housing. For those of you unfamiliar with the R3 process, basically everyone gets assigned a lottery number. If you want university housing, lottery numbers are supposed to go to the contracting center at a specific time. Grad students can go in on any day at any time, as long as it is a day when they are doing contracting for housing. So I went this morning to pick out my grad housing, trying to be one of the first people in and out. After looking at the poster of which spots in what buldings were still open, I realized there were only 2-5 one bedroom "one person one bedroom" apartments available. I thought it would be ok though, since I was in the front of the line, and there probably weren't more than two or three grad students ahead of me anyway. I got in line with all the stupid freshmen and stood there for a while listening to their inane chitter-chatter about how "OMG, we're not going to get into Troy or Troy East" (which was utterly ridiculous because there is more undergrad housing than grad, and besides, these people were the first batch of freshmen to get their housing contracts for next year). Let's say, if you looked at the whole line, I would have been in the middle. Then this stupid housing woman comes out to make sure everyone in the line is there for the first appointment time. She goes down the line, asking everyone if they were there for the 10:30 appointment. I tell her I'm applying to grad housing. She tells me to go to the end of the line! WTF. She tells all the grad students to go to the end of the line. Grrrr. Fine, so I give up my excellent spot near the front of the line and go stand in the back of that line. Then, by the time I get up to the station where I am supposed to pick my housing, I find out that all the "one bedroom one person" apartments have been taken. Double WTF. Which meant that there were grad students that she didn't tell to go to the back of the line and who ended up going in before me and picking the apartments I wanted! Grrr, grrr. Stupid housing department. I had to settle for a studio apartment. (But I could have had a one bedroom apartment for $20 more a month in that same building if they had still been available.) I am not very happy about the studio apartment thing, but I guess it's better than nothing. I also have it all to myself, so that's good too. When I told Nick about my "go to the end-of-the-line" fiasco and how I ended up with a studio, he's all, "Oh, that's ok. I mean, you don't have very much living room stuff anyway. Besides, you don't have enough stuff to fill up a living room and a bedroom." But I could. Hehe. Now all that I need is to actually get accepted to grad school. Sigh.

Does anyone know how to make a coffee-flavored cake roll?

I think it is detrimental for me to look at Fry's website. It just makes me want to buy stuff because it's cheap. Currently on the list for looking/researching is a big Crock Pot (for soup!), a digital camera, a Sony Memory Stick, a paper shredder, and a DVD/VHS combo. Gahh. There's too many things to buy!

This is a picture of the HUGE shot glass Blush gave me. I put it next to a regular mug so viewers could get a sense of the scale. Hehe. (Sorry it's a little dark.)

Today's class was sooooo boring. I sat and made myself a list of things to do this week, just so I could look like I was being productive and writing in my notebook.

I know this is really boring to talk about, but I finished my taxes! Whoopee! I had been kind of stressed about it for a while, and I finally did them last Wednesday, so now I'm happy. I filed electronically, and it is the best thing ever! At first I was afraid I would screw up, but it's really, really easy and it does all the calculations for you. I was amazed at how little time it took. Dude, when my taxes get more complicated in the future, I think I shall invest in TurboTax. It seems well worth the money. (I got to file online for free because I only had simple stuff for my taxes.)

I also decided that when I get my own place, I shall buy myself a duster so I can do dusting. (Ok, everyone, stop laughing.) I was inspired by how clean and dust-free Bahram's place was when we visited the other night. (Although, he doesn't do his own dusting ... they have a cleaning woman.) And I will make Nick pick up all his clothes and fold them instead of having huge piles lying around! Hehe. We decided that we are going to get those wine glass rack things that go underneath hanging cabinets where you can hang wine glasses upside down. Not that we drink wine a lot (or ever). Just because it looks pretty cool! Hehe.

Still waiting to hear from grad school. It's kinda bad because both of us are not being very optimistic about either of our chances to get into grad school. Don't really know why we feel like that. I guess it's reasonable on both our ends; I think his reasons for being worried are fairly valid, and he thinks mine are valid too. We're trying to encourage each other to look on the bright side of things, but I can tell we're both pretty bummed about it. So we will take things one step at a time and see where that takes us.

Ok, so in one of my classes, I am doing a project on blogs and privacy. We're all supposed to post on our class blog about our projects so other people can respond and give us suggestions or whatever. There's this guy who's supposed to be doing blogs and therapy (don't ask me; I don't really understand what his project is supposed to be about or why he picked it) who posted a paragraph about his project ... except that his project description sounded almost entirely like my project! :O Grrr. How annoying. Stick to your own topic, buddy! He wrote all about blogs and privacy and stuff in his project description, so I'm not really sure what the deal is. I hope he doesn't try to steal my project idea, because that means I have to find another one. It should be ok, though, because I'm actually listed in the class schedule as "Blogs and Privacy". Hmm.

I hate it when cotton shirts shrink in the wash. Damn.
